František Kánský: Czech gendarme and prison guard from the Lety camp
This exhibition was created out of documents which the Lidice Memorial obtained from František Kanský's estate in 2012. In the spring of 1941, this gendarme was reassigned to the position of prison guard at the labor camp in Lety, which afterwards became a collection camp and later still a camp for Roma. To quote Kansky, he served out his time here "grudgingly", involuntarily. When he returned to the gendarmerie, he saved several people from being arrested and likely death during the Nazi occupation.
