The Lidice Gallery is situated in the middle of the new Lidice village, approximately 500 metres from the premises of the Lidice Memorial museum.
The Gallery building
Originally it was built according to a project of an architect František Marek as a house of culture. The construction of the building begun in 1957 and it was presented for testing operation on June 14 1959. After 1989 it became a private ownership and it stopped being used for the original purpose. The ruined building was bought by state and in years 2002-2003 it was rebuilt towards the current usage. The main frontage of the two-storied building lies partially on a terrace with stairs levelling the steep land. The entrance is pointed out by triangular gable and the main entrance by a semi-circle window. The window reveal is ornamented with leafs and fruits. This building with decorative elements- a contemporary architectural style typical for that period remained a natural social centre of the village together with the neighbouring restaurant Lidice Gallery and stores.
On the area in front of the building there is a monument from Carrara for Lidice from the year 1962. The relief from the marble of Carrara is engaged into granite stele according to a plan of an architect František Maria Černý (known for his modification of the front face of the church Na Slovanech in Prague). It records a male nude who is killing three vipers with a gunstock. It epitomizes (maybe German, Italian, Spanish or Japanese) fascism. The relief style recurring to the roman antique stems from the official Italian art of the thirties and forties. It is the first art piece devoted to martyr Lidce by partisan Carrara as the sign declares.
The room for exhibitions and culture events
In the basement of the building one can see a permanent exposition there. It is composed from gifts that artists from the whole world donated to Lidice- so called part "Lidice Collection". In the first floor there are exhibitions held regularly, since May until October there is an actual year of The International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Art installed in the premises of the Marble Hall of the first floor. In the premises of The Lidice Gallery there are culture events, concerts and theatre performances held.
